I’ve been dreaming about Guatemala and already getting ready for this year’s trip. Then I realized that I never finished posting the photos.
Tekal was a bucket list item for sure and I’ve never been more sore in my life. But it was totally worth it…
Can’t wait for August!
The last bit of fall light…
One of my good friends is just a few weeks away from having her baby! It’s been quite the process to have this little dude, but he’ll be here before we all know it.
308 acres of exploring. Goats. Cows. Two people in love.
What more could you ask for in a session?
Words are not enough to explain how much I LOVED this wedding! And I’m so excited to finally share it with you.
This day was the perfect example of doing your wedding the way you want it. Simple, classy and so much love was poured into this day. Down to the smallest details. From Elli’s wedding jewelry, to the wheat in her boutique. Everything had a meaning.
Usually on a wedding day, I have very limited time with just the couple for portraits because the day is jammed packed with so much, but with such a small ceremony, I got to spend well over an hour with just them walking around the neighborhood. Such a dream!
Please give me all the small weddings and elopements! They are my favorite!!

Some of the sweetest and darkest brown eyes you’ll ever see!
I have words other than thank you. To everyone who supported, prayed, texted, donated….thank you for continuing to help me get to one my favorite places in the world.
Now, who’s coming with me next year?!
It's been 6ish months since the last blog....oh well.
This summer I had a shoot in LA and was lucky enough to drop in and do an in home session for a longtime friend of mine.
In home sessions are one of my faves to shoot...especially if you have little ones. Everyone is a little more comfortable and you get to capture what life is really like and...
The reality of nap time.
It was rainy and cold, but these two rocked it. I've never had a guy be excited photos as much as Erik was.
I've been back a little over two months now and OH.MY.WORD. has it been insane. Being busy is something I personally like, but that usually means something has to be put on the back burner for a bit. Hence the October post from my trip in August.
I was going to try and fit everything from Guatemala into one blog post and even though I didn't take as many photos as years prior, there's just too much for one.
Every year is so much different from the last. And this year was no exception. I mean, we ended up being there for a total of 17 days. Seven days longer than planned. And it was amazing!
Although the reason why we were there for longer is sad, for those of us who had to been before, it was quite the gift. We were able to actually hang out with people we love and be tourists for the first time.
I know, I know, it's been a hundred years since I've last blogged. My excuse? My life has been insane between photography, ministry and my personal life. Still trying to find some balance!
So to make up for some lost time, here is one of my favorite weddings from this past July. Rob & Abby were amazing to work with and super chill. They traveled from Chicago with their pup to have a beautiful non-traditional summer wedding on top of Black Rock in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
Besides the fact that I was obsessed with her dress (which had pockets btw!), I loved how these two just stuck true to themselves. No bridal party and not your traditional reception. Seriously, my kind of people!
It's a good reminder that when you're planning your wedding, you do you!

To say that I'm excited about this September wedding is an understatement! Patrick and Torey are so in love and are all smiles. They seriously are perfect!
We took a lot of photos and got eaten alive by mosquitos, but I'd say it was worth it.

I paint my own reality. The only thing I know is that I paint because I need to, and I paint whatever passes through my head without any other consideration.
~ Frida Kahlo
First blog post in 6 months. I know. As a professional who should be trying to build one’s business, it’s kind of a big deal to go MIA for so long. And I suspect that I will open up about all the things soon, but not today.
Today. Today, I have to try and find the right words to describe this incredible shoot.
I should probably tell you that I have thought and dreamed of this shoot for YEARS. Yes. years. I don’t know why I even thought about it or why I’m so fascinated by Frida Kahlo. Most of you don’t even know who she was or if you do, it’s all about that brow. I’m also not sure why it’s taken me so long to do the shoot. Other than I’ve just wanted it to be perfect. In a sense, I’ve been protecting it.
I believe wholeheartedly in creating for oneself, but more importantly, I believe in a creative community. People who will push you, remind you of your gifts and to go beyond your own limits. And this would NOT have happened if it weren’t for Courtney and Kristina from Maud, Desiree from Briar and Bloom and the beautiful Vanessa. All of them took my idea and just let it explode. They brought things to the table that I hadn’t even thought of. Thank you ladies for being so effing brilliant.
While shooting there were a few moments where I was getting emotional. When I get excited about a shoot, I usually do some sort of jump-dance combo like a buffoon, but tears kept coming to my eyes. It’s been such a long time since I've felt excited about what I’m working on. Please don’t take offense to that. I LOVE shooting and I’m always happy about what I produce for my clients, but this was so different. It was like a part of my soul and drive returned to me. Needless to say, this shoot, these ladies and the timing was perfect and needed.
I’m going to stop talking so that you can see the photos, because it’s just a dream and I’m obsessed.

I've never been more honored, excited or nervous to shoot something. It had to be perfect for these two.
She had no idea how long he'd been planning this or that he asked me to be there to capture such a defining moment.
Patrick and Torey, I'm so excited for you two!
I have nothing clever to say, other than I've tried to write something 3 times and deleted them all.
Perfect location + The Perfect couple + Amazing Fall weather = Epic Shoot.
I've had this location in my pocket for a while and it's only the second time I've used it. It had to be the right couple to take here and Dan & Kimberely were it. I'm so happy with what transpired in front of my lens.
Here's what Kimberely had to say about their experience:
"Tess did an amazing job for my husband and I! We've been together for 10 years and she really captured the love and respect we have for each other. It was also a really fun photo shoot because we did a lot of different poses but it felt very natural and wasn't forced either. She got our pics back to us quickly and they are so beautiful. LOVE LOVE LOVE her!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Engagement Season is upon us and I would LOVE to be the one you choose to document your love.
